Welcome to the Woodhaven Road Project Homepage!

There is a new approach to identify transportation improvements for the Somerton community. This new idea is called Community Connections, and it is intended to be smaller in scale, lower in cost and have less impact than previously considered transportation plans for the Woodhaven Road Project.

Community Connections is a New Direction

The intention of Community Connections is to work with Philadelphia residents to develop an appropriate transportation improvement for their neighborhood. This is a community improvement that would address local transportation needs, with a focus on providing traffic relief to Byberry Road in Somerton and improving neighborhood circulation.

In the past, residents expressed concerns that previously considered alternatives were focused on addressing regional traffic mobility, which would attract unwanted traffic and cause unwanted impacts. In response to these concerns, Community Connections was conceived with these basic goals in mind:

  • Engage the public in design before an alternative is finalized.
  • Address local congestion, not regional mobility.
  • Don't attract new traffic to the community.
  • Any transportation improvement should also be about the community, not just the motorist.

QUICK FACTS

A basic concept has been developed. This concept needs refinement based on community input before it can move forward.

Community Connections:
  • Is a Philadelphia-only transportation solution.
  • Will provide a two-lane parkway that will relieve traffic on Byberry Road in Somerton.
  • Will not include any new roadways -- or any roadway widenings -- in either Bucks or Montgomery counties.
  • Will include enhancements to benefit Somerton neighborhoods.
  • Is still being developed -- with your help.
