Bustleton Avenue Alternative

The Bustleton Avenue Alternative is designed to separate regional northbound and westbound traffic from local Byberry Road traffic. Regional traffic is directed to stay on the Woodhaven Extension west to Bustleton Avenue. From there, this traffic is directed north on Bustleton Avenue to County Line Road, while local traffic is directed to exit onto Byberry Road just east of Worthington Road.

Features of this alternative include:

Extending the Woodhaven Expressway from its current terminus at Evans Street with two westbound lanes, including:
  • An inside westbound lane, continuing to an at-grade intersection with Bustleton Avenue (here, traffic would be directed north onto Bustleton Avenue to County Line Road and points west); and
  • An outside westbound lane, exiting onto Byberry Road east of Worthington Road, directing traffic west on Byberry Road.

Two eastbound lanes will be provided from Bustleton Avenue:

  • One lane will carry traffic from southbound Bustleton Avenue to the eastbound expressway via a grade separated ramp;
  • An at grade on-ramp will be provided from northbound Bustleton Avenue. The ramp will permit traffic to either merge onto the expressway or continue east to a new intersection with an extended Northeast Boulevard; and
  • A new bridge over the CSX tracks will be provided to connect Northeast Boulevard to Byberry Road on the east side of the railroad with access to US 1 (The Roosevelt Boulevard).

Traffic traveling to points north and west of County Line Road will take the Woodhaven Expressway to Bustleton Avenue and then go north on Bustleton Avenue to County Line Road. In addition, southbound Bustleton Avenue traffic will have a fly-over ramp to access the eastbound Woodhaven Expressway.
