Improvements Common to All Build Alternatives

The expanded Woodhaven Road project area resulted in programming transportation improvements that are similar for all build alternatives. Located throughout the project area, these improvements include:
  • Replacing the temporary CSX bridge on Byberry Road;
  • Extending Northeast Boulevard north to Worthington Road;
  • Improving the Bustleton Avenue/Philmont Avenue intersection;
  • Improving various intersections along County Line Road between Bustleton Avenue and New Road;
  • Widening County Line Road to five lanes from Pine Road to Buck Road;
  • Widening County Line Road to four lanes from Buck Road to just west of New Road;
  • Widening Huntingdon Pike to four lanes from just north of County Line Road to just south of Byberry Road; and
  • Improving the Huntingdon Pike/Byberry Road intersection.

Under all alternatives– including the No Build– the Byberry Road bridge over the CSX railroad tracks will be replaced and the three-ton weight restriction will be removed. For the No Build Alternative, increased truck traffic will be a factor in further increased congestion and decreased safety conditions through the study area.

Truck traffic will also be reintroduced to Byberry Road as part of the Byberry Road Upgrade Alternative. Although delays are projected to be relatively low under this alternative, the increased truck percentages may negatively affect pedestrian safety. In addition, Bustleton Avenue has the potential to re-introduce truck traffic to Byberry Road from the westbound off ramp near Worthington Road. For the Woodhaven Extension Alternative, the loss of the weight restriction will only have an influence on local truck traffic; most through truck traffic would be expected to use the Woodhaven Extension. The Bustleton Modified will have an impact similar to the Woodhaven Road Extension.
