Under all alternatives, including the No Build Alternative, the Byberry Road Bridge Over the CSX– Trenton Line Tracks will be replaced and the 3-ton weight restriction will be removed.
For the No Build Alternative, truck traffic would be re-introduced to Byberry Road. DVRPC traffic modeling forecasts indicate that approximately 5 percent of the traffic on this section of Byberry Road will be heavy trucks (three or more axles). Along this section of Byberry Road, the increased truck traffic would be expected to increase congestion and delay and may result in increased safety concerns.
Under the Byberry Road Upgrade Alternative, truck traffic would also be reintroduced to sections of Byberry Road. Although delays are projected to be relatively low under this alternative, the increased truck traffic may result in pedestrian safety concerns. Under the Woodhaven Extension Alternative, Bustleton Avenue Alternative and Bustleton Avenue Modified Alternative, the removal of the weight restriction would result in increased local truck traffic, although most through truck traffic would be expected to use the new facility, not Byberry Road.
All five of the alternatives studied satisfy the need to replace the bridge.
