Community Connections is more than an attempt to minimize disruptions to the community. It is an opportunity for residents to determine if they wish to restore neighborhoods that have been divided -- divided by the PennDOT right-of-way, divided by busy streets, or divided over previously proposed alternatives.
In neighborhoods to the east and west of Bustleton Avenue, neighborhoods separated by the PennDOT right-of-way can be stitched back together with new local street connections. These could provide residents with more convenient travel options, further improving local traffic circulation. Once the roadway design is complete, private landowners may see opportunities for infill housing that will help to reconnect both halves of those neighborhoods.
By reducing traffic on Byberry Road east of Bustleton and through traffic calming measures, the residential character of that neighborhood can be re-established. Pedestrian enhancements can allow people to feel safe walking to school, church or other neighborhood destinations.
