WOODHAVEN ROAD Draft Environmental Impact Statement

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (May 22) -- The Woodhaven Road Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) will be available for public review and comment from May 23, 2003 to July 11, 2003, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) today announced.

Beginning Friday, the Woodhaven Road DEIS will be available for public review at 16 locations. The days and hours of its availability at each location may vary. The DEIS will also be available for review on line at www.woodhavenroad.com. A CD-ROM version of the DEIS or a hard copy of the Executive Summary can also be obtained.

The Woodhaven Road DEIS examined more than a dozen alternatives to improve travel and safety and reduce congestion in the area bordered by U.S. Route 1, County Line Road, Huntingdon Pike and Byberry Road.

PENNDOT District Administrator Andrew L. Warren said the upcoming public comment period will give citizens the opportunity to closely review the draft environmental document and to express their views on the project and the alternatives under consideration.

PENNDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a Joint Public Hearing on June 24, 2003 and June 26, 2003 to give interested citizens the chance to comment on the DEIS. The June 24 public hearing will take place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory at 2700 Southampton Avenue, Philadelphia. On June 26, the public hearing will take place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Lower Moreland High School, 555 Red Lion Road, Lower Moreland, Montgomery County.

Citizens have four ways to comment on the Woodhaven Road DEIS during the public comment period. They are

  • Oral testimony transcribed by a stenographer at the June 24 or June 26 public hearing

  • Oral testimony transcribed by a stenographer in private at the June 24 or June 26 public hearing

  • Written testimony submitted at the public hearing or submitted to PENNDOT before July 11, 2003.

  • Written testimony submitted to PENNDOT. Send to: PENNDOT, 7000 Geerdes Boulevard, King of Prussia, PA 19406, Attn: Joseph Capella.

PENNDOT will include comments received either orally or in writing in the project's public record and will publish responses in the Final Environmental Impact Statement.
