PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR WOODHAVEN ROAD DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT EXTENDED TO AUGUST 11, 2003

Draft EIS available at 16 locations plus online at www.woodhavenroad.com

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (July 9)––The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has extended the public comment period for the Woodhaven Road Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) to August 11, 2003, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) said today. The comment period began May 23, 2003 and was scheduled to end July 11, 2003.

PENNDOT District Executive Andrew L. Warren said the federal highway agency acted upon a public request to extend the public comment period to allow citizens more time to review the Woodhaven Road environmental study and the alternatives under consideration.

Citizens can send their written comments on the Woodhaven Road study to PENNDOT at 7000 Geerdes Boulevard, King of Prussia, PA 19406, attention Joseph Capella.

The Woodhaven Road DEIS is available for public review at 16 locations. The days and hours of its availability at each location may vary. The DEIS is also available for review on line at www.woodhavenroad.com. A CD-ROM version of the DEIS or a hard copy of the Executive Summary can also be obtained. (Editor's Note: The names and addresses of the 16 locations, plus the contact to obtain a CD-ROM or hard copy of the Executive Summary can be found on pages 2-3).

The public comment period gives citizens the opportunity to review the draft environmental document and to express their views on the project and the alternatives under consideration.

The Woodhaven Road DEIS examined more than a dozen alternatives to improve travel and safety and reduce congestion in the area bordered by U.S. Route 1, County Line Road, Huntingdon Pike and Byberry Road.

A public hearing on the Woodhaven Road DEIS was held on June 24, 2003 in Philadelphia and June 26, 2003 in Montgomery County to give interested citizens the chance to comment on the study.

The public comments received at last month's public hearing in Philadelphia and Montgomery County and those received in writing by August 11 will be included in the Woodhaven Road Final Environmental Impact Statement. Responses to the public comments will also be part of the final environmental document.

The Woodhaven Road DEIS is available for public review at the locations listed below until August 11, 2003. A CD-ROM version of the DEIS or a hard copy of the Executive Summary can also be obtained by making a request in writing to:
